Let your feet wander, your eyes marvel, and your soul ignite....
on Samchow58's travel map.
March 1
It's been 5 years since I've packed my backpack and headed off on my own….my last trip was my 60th birthday to Australia and Cook Islands. Lots have happened over the last 5 years, I built a new house, sold the family home, lost my older sister to Cancer, and became a senior citizen (yikes!).
Left a snowy Nanaimo on Wednesday, March 1 in search of some warmth and relaxation
I had an 8 hour layover in Vancouver, so I headed off to the River Rock Casino to grab dinner and people watch. On the way back I got on the wrong skytrain! Thank goodness I had 8 hours to get back! It was such a long long evening! I managed to get into the Plaza Premium Lounge for most of the time. Free food and drinks!
March 3
Seems that I slept a day away. I managed to get a few hours sleep. We landed in Taipei 1 hour late.
Sunrise from my seat.
Taipei from the sky
A few sights from the Taipei airport
Lego store creations
The flight to Bali was very interesting. I chatted with the man next to me, he’s from San Francisco. Left his wife and children and is meeting his new love. We talked about everything for infidelity to the war in Ukraine! He gave me lots of suggestions of things to do and see while in Ubud.
Bali from the air
My driver found me in the midst of the airport craziness. We started our 2 hour drive to Ubud. Like any Asian country, the traffic was horrible! Scooters and motorbikes weaving in and out, cars and big trucks all doing the same.
I’ll be staying at the Ayung Resort for the next 7 days. The resort is set on 8 hectare and is nestled in the rainforest along the banks of the Ayung River. Only way to get around the resort is with golf carts.
After 36 hours of travel, I opted for room service and a lite meal.
I hope you had a great night sleep after your long exhausting start! I am sure there are beautiful sites and experiences awaiting you!
