Spiritual Ubud

Well! I woke up at 2 am (Bali time) to look for my telus SIM card. Didn’t see it when I was putting stuff in my safe. It’s gone! Telus SIM card cancelled thanks to Stephanie. I’ll deal with it when I get home!

The view from my room is just amazing. I fell asleep to the sound of crickets and the river running below.

The resort I’m staying at provides a free breakfast everyday. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the rainforest

i took the shuttle into town to explore and to sign up for a sound bath healing class at the yoga barn. I walked for 118 minutes, climbed 34 floors, walked a distance of 14.1 km, and took 20,371 steps. My feet and my knees are very sore tonight!

So….remember the man I sat with on the plane? Let’s call him AJ. We’ve been chatting since we left the airport. He very generously has offered to drive and show me the sights of Bali. I had lunch at a restaurant called “Ooops” before we met up.

Samosa and watermelon juice….it was so good.

Jumped into AJs car and headed off to sightsee. Stopped at a few shops looking for a Buddah for Stephanie’s meditation room, but I’m not having too much luck. Look at Buddha’s face….like it’s not a happy face.

We then headed up to see the Tegallalang Rice Terrace. It’s a series of beautiful arranged paddies. The rice terrace has beefed listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are numerous of swings located along the terrace. Tourists flock here to have their pictures taken while on the swing. Ladies can rent long flowing dresses to wear while swinging. There are three zip lines available, one is a bike that you pedal to the other side of the rice terrace. Sorry folks I’m not that brave!

A large majority of tourists are from Russia. Because of the war, many Russians have fled their homeland and are now living here in Bali. AJ took me to a resort called ParQ. Built and owned by Russians. There is also a school for the children that live in ParQ. We stopped to see their facility and landed up sitting at a coffee shop for over 2 hours talking about infidelity and it’s affect on family.

While on my walk around in Ubud, I stopped and picked up a famed Indonesian dish - Babi guling, or suckling pig. The pig is stuffed and infused with a spicy concoction of turmeric, coriander seeds, lemongrass, black pepper, and garlic. This was my dinner!
