Travel day to Samara. A little over 3 hours of easy driving.
Samara is in 1 of 5 Blue Zones in the world. Blue Zones are regions of the world where people live much longer than average. It has a bit of a hippie-commune feel to it. Playa Samara has a reputation as a great place for snorkeling, scuba diving and hiking. Pura Vida! The Province of Guanacaste also has the added benefit that even during rainy season, you can have full days of sun and less people on the beach.
Grabbed dinner with my dinner date….

My friends, Norm and Susan have moved here from Victoria. I’m going to be seeing them tomorrow. However, yesterday evening, I messaged them to see if there was a quieter beach they go to. Samara beach is so busy…too many people and way too many horses! They told me about Playa Carrillo.
Playa Carillo is absolutely gorgeous with it’s bright blue clear waters, tall coconut palms and clean tan sand.
Out to get dinner I stopped at Cangrejal Beach. Playa Cangrejal occupies the west end of Playa Samara. Caught this beauty in the tree

Headed out for breakfast and then off to see Norm and Susan’s property. Norm and Susan are my neighbours at Lake Cowichan. They purchased a 2 acres property in the mountains near Samara. Plans to build their dream/retirement home here. Their property is about 20 minutes outside of Samara. Has beautiful views!

FINALLY, saw some toucans
A walk on the beach before dinner
Met them for a wonderful dinner at Locanda, a beautiful restaurant on the beach.
Had a wonderful day visiting with beautiful friends. I’m so glad that I was able to see their beautiful property and see their amazing retirement plans come alive. Thanks for sharing your day!
I head off to Tamari
